TRESAITH and Llangrannog are among four Ceredigion beaches who have been awarded Blue Flags.

The other beaches to receive the coveted award are Borth and Aberystwyth South.

Aberporth & Mwnt, Penbryn, Tresaith, New Quay Harbour, New Quay Dolau/North, Cilborth-Llangrannog and Llangrannog are among an additional 13 beaches achieving Seaside Award status.

And Cilborth-Llangrannog, and Penbryn & Mwnt are among a further four obtaining Green Coast Awards.

Beaches achieving Blue Flag and Green Coast awards must meet the highest water quality standard and are judged for the provision of facilities for beach users and for demonstrating good management and safety provision.

The Seaside Award recognises beaches that have good public facilities, water quality, safety provision and management.

The news has been welcomed by Cllr Clive Davies, Ceredigion County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration.

“It’s fantastic to see Blue and Seaside Award flags flying at Ceredigion’s most popular bathing beaches again this year and we are fully expecting to see our coastline and beaches very busy once again throughout 2022 as the visitor economy recovers from the effects of the pandemic,” he said.

“I am also proud to say that; without the continued and much valued support of the numerous voluntary groups and individuals championing our Caru Ceredigion mantra, by undertaking regular clean-up activities on our beaches and along the foreshore of Ceredigion has in no small way contributed in our ability to once again put forward such a large number of our beaches and successfully obtain these prestigious awards which places Ceredigion beaches amongst the very best in Wales and the UK.”

The coastal award schemes in Wales are co-ordinated and administered by Keep Wales Tidy.
