CRYMYCH boxing twins Ioan and Garan Croft are ‘over the moon’ after being selected for the GB Podium Squad at the Team GB training camp at Sheffield.

The 20-year-old Cardigan ABC pair – along with Welsh team-mate Taylor Bevan – are currently in Sheffield training alongside other hopefuls for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

It is a huge step in the continuing development of the identical twins who first walked into the Cardigan gym as eight-year-olds.

Only last month they became Cardigan's first Welsh senior champs since Lee Winney in 1998.

Ioan and Garan's top priority this year will be the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in July.

But their long-term goal are the Paris Olympics – now just 30 months away.

Speaking from Sheffield this morning, Garan said:

“We are both over the moon to be here – our first trial was four years ago, so it’s been a long time coming and a lot of hard work!

“To now finally be a GB boxer is great and I’m excited to see what comes of it over the next two years as we aim for the Paris Olympics in 2024.”

Ioan described the move as 'a dream come true'.

"It's the goal of most amateur boxers to become part of the GB team," he said. "We can now look forward to an exciting 2022."

A statement on the Welsh Boxing website ran: “Huge congratlations to Ioan Croft, Garan Croft and Taylor Bevan, who have all been selected for the GB Podium Squad.

“A massive achievement for all three, who have worked incredibly hard whilst in the High Performance Programme here in Wales.

"Pwb lwc and best wishes to all three as they embark on the next stage of their boxing journey!”
