The family of a Pembrokeshire woman who died at the end of last month, have thanked the public for their generosity in helping to fund her funeral.

Ellie Ford’s family said they were ‘in despair’ to learn of her death after she was found in her Fishguard flat on October 27.

Ellie, 57, was one of six siblings and a mother of six herself. She had four grandchildren, with another due in December and in September had enjoyed celebrating the wedding of her daughter, Fae, with family.

“For her family, this is a sudden and tragic loss [we are] in despair to know that she is gone,” said Fae.

“My mother told magical and wild stories of her adventures in life,” she said. “She lived freely, and the way she wanted to. In her own special way, she was a feminist and a matriarch. She believed in liberty as a way of life.

“Ellie will be remembered for her unconventional way of life, her joyful spirit, and excellent taste in music,”

The family has set up a Gofundme campaign to help cover the costs of Ellie’s funeral as she did not have a pension or any savings.

“Her death was so sudden that we had no time to finically prepare,” added Fae.

“We plan for her to have an eco-burial so that she can return to the earth she loved and explored.”

“We believe Ellie would have wanted to be close to nature, as she was a born traveller and self-taught historian,” she added.

The campaign has so far received £4,150 which the family has used towards an eco-coffin and a burial place in a wildflower meadow with a view of the Preselis.

The family is still accepting donations to help towards the costs of the wake, family accommodation and travel expenses as Ellie had family all over the UK and beyond.

“I have been overwhelmed and extremely grateful for all the money we have raised. It means we are able to give her the funeral she would have wanted and deserved,” said Fae.

“None of this would have been possible without the generosity of your contributions. We are so grateful for all of your support.”
