AN ABERPORTH pharmacist has hit out at the number of people who are failing to turn up for their second Covid jabs.

In a Facebook post on the village information page, Alastair Craig – who runs the Penrhyn Pharmacy – spoke of his frustration that vaccinations were having to be discarded following a series of ‘no-shows’.

He added that his staff had been left ‘stunned and demoralised’.

“This week, after quite a bit of work, we started to provide Covid vaccinations,” he said. “Lots of training for us all.

“We really looked forward to it and hoped we could help make a difference.

“We started on Monday, two people didn’t bother to come.

Tuesday, one no-show.

“Wednesday, four people decide it was too much trouble.

“Today three people. One person didn’t show up who lives within 200 yards of the Pharmacy.

“These vaccines go to waste. We can’t use them on anyone else. They go in the bin.

“We can’t drag someone off the street, they are there for a specific person.

“We have all been through a lot for months, everyone - you, me, all our staff, everyone.

“Please tell me why? Why would you not come for your second vaccination?

“In the pharmacy this afternoon we are completely stunned and demoralised.

“If you have an appointment please make the effort.”

Mr Craig’s comments came after new data released by Hywel Dda Health Board showed half the population of Ceredigion was fully vaccinated.
