RETIRED St Dogmaels schoolteacher Huw Evans is thought to be just a few miles away from completing his marathon charity walk around Wales this morning.

The grandad-of-two set off on August 26 on his Route 66 Cymru Wales challenge to walk around Wales via the coastal path and Offa’s Dyke.

And the 67-year-old aims to raise £5,000 for the Wales Air Ambulance and the RNLI following his 1,047-mile journey.

A rise in Covid-19 cases and local lockdowns forced the former assistant head at Cardigan Secondary School to a reluctant halt a month into the 70-day challenge.

But Huw resumed the 177-mile Offa’s Dyke stage of his marathon from Prestatyn to Chepstow earlier this month.

His final day’s walking today was due to see him trudge the final leg from Newport to Poppit to enable him to finish where he started.
