A TOTAL of 23 new jobs have been announced at a New Quay caravan site as holiday operators throughout the region gear up for what they anticipate will be a bumper holiday season.

Haven Holidays, who run Quay West, say the new jobs – both part-time and full-time will involve working across various areas of the parks including leisure, cleaning and security.

Their announcement came after the Welsh Government said self-contained accommodation can re-open from Sunday.

Haven spokesperson Julie Scoltock said they anticipated an exceptionally busy year with a huge question mark hanging over foreign holidays as Covid infections again rise on the Continent.

“This year is set to be a really big year for UK holidays with thousands of holidaymakers looking to escape to the great British coast for a well-deserved break,” she added.

“This is going to be the year of the staycation,” forecast Tom Scarrott, of Vale Holiday Parks.

“Bookings are up considerably even though last summer was one of our busiest during the time we were actually allowed to be open.”

Lisa Stopher, of West Wales Holiday Cottages, in Aberporth, said: “We have very little occupancy left – people have been moving holidays booked for last year while others are snapping up vacancies left, right and centre.

“People are desperate for holidays so our normal patterns have gone out the window although we are obviously currently closed to bookings from across the border."
