When the coronvirus pandemic brought all football in Wales to a halt the centrepiece competition in the Costcutter Ceredigion League the Easter Monday League Cup had reached the semi-final stage but the final outcome will never be known.

At the quarter final stage Division One champions St Dogmaels sprang a 4-3 win over Llanboidy at Cae Dandre, Lampeter Town pulled off a 3-2 away win over Newcastle Emlyn, Crannog edged past visitors Cardigan Town at the Urdd Centre and league newcomers Crymych handed out a six-of-the-best caning to Aberporth at Tegryn.

In the semi-final draw Crymych faced their toughest test since being admitted to Division Two by meeting St Dogmaels while many neutrals viewed the Crannog versus Lampeter Town as a tough tie to call.

The League Cup started in season 1946-47 with Newcastle Emlyn the first winners after beating Llandysul in the final and the Reds followed up by successfully defending the trophy against Aberaeron the following season.

Emlyn have lifted the coveted trophy 16 times - double their nearest rivals Aberaeron.

Dewi Stars captured the trophy four times on the bounce between 1992 and 1994, but the club with most consecutive successes is Maesglas who were virtually unbeatable during their golden era in the 1980s.

After winning the competition in season 1981-82 the Cardigan-based Blues won five on the trot from 1986 to 1990, a record that will be difficult to beat.
