IT has been an amazing nine days for everyone involved with Cardigan Town FC - with the club raising a huge amount of money for charity.

Club members set themselves the challenge of virtually running and walking a combined total of 870 miles, the distance around Wales, in support of CP Cymru ( Cerebral Palsy) foundation.

James Evans, who has been an outstanding servant as a player, has two boys named Griff and Jac who both suffer with Cerebral Palsy.

And the concept caught on, with players, coaches, sponsors, supporters, family members, and even members of other football clubs getting involved and contributing.

Sure enough, the group reached their target in just five days, so then reset their goal to see if they could complete the same distance again in the remaining four that were left.

Needing 114.9 miles on the final day, another 297.6 were added for a grand total of 1,922.7 - more than double the original target.

And at the time of the Tivyside going to press, more than £9000 had been raised, remarkable given the club had originally said they wanted to raise a minimum of £1870.

"A huge thank you to everyone who donated and business in the community who have all come together and smashed our target," said a club spokesman.

"We set a target of £1870, but we weren’t sure how much we would get to. We have been brought to our knees by raising what we have so far.

"Cerebral palsy is a close foundation within the club and we couldn’t of picked a better charity to raise money for!!

The best part of this whole challenge, is these two amazing boys (Griff and Jac) completing the final mile of the day, being pushed by their older sister Imogen."

There is still time to donate with the GoFundMe page still active, and for more information visit the Cardigan Town Football Club Facebook page.
