CARDIGAN Lifeboat was called out twice in the space little more than an hour yesterday (Saturday, June 20).
The first page to the RNLI station at Popitt Sands from the Coastguard was at 11.57am after two reports of flares being sighted off Ceibwr – a white flare was spotted by a member of the public while a red flare was reported by a fishing boat.
Cardigan’s Atlantic-class lifeboat was sent to the scene, while Moylegrove Coastguard was involved in the search. Nothing was found and the crew returned to station at 1.20pm.
An hour later, the crew was paged again to help the police in the search for a missing person and launched at 2.30pm.
Both boats were launched to the Aberporth area to carry out a search, while the police helicopter and Coastguard units from New Quay and Cardigan were also involved.
The two boats were stood down at 4.45pm after nothing had been found.
