YOUNGSTERS across Ceredigion are being encouraged to stay active during the continued coronavirus lockdown.

The Active Young People team and Young Ambassadors from Ceredigion Schools have been busy preparing resources for activities and skills that children can do at home.

The activities are available as videos that have been shared on @CeredigionActif social media sites, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Elen James, corporate lead officer for Porth Cymorth Cynnar, community wellbeing and learning said: “We aim to encourage Ceredigion pupils to be active every day.

“Being active not only improves physical health and fitness but also has a really positive effect on mental wellbeing. Many of these activities can be done inside or outside with limited equipment.

“We are really pleased that a number of our experienced Young Ambassadors are being proactive and getting involved in producing videos to encourage others to get active.”

Schools can join in through Microsoft Teams through the Hwb website so that Ceredigion school pupils can be active every day.

The activities consist of:

  • Filmed lessons: These are short but intensive workouts that include physical activity to improve fitness and wellbeing and also foundation skills to improve concentration and coordination
  • Quick Fire Games: Short activities or games that can be set up at home. There are poster and video explanations
  • Information on how to set up Fit in 5: Introduced to Ceredigion Primary Schools to get children active for a short period of time every day. Practice five different skills for five minutes every day. This is quick to set up and easy to do
  • QR Code videos of foundation skills: These have been embedded into existing skill cards so that learners can read instructions or view a video before taking part. These can be used on their own or for Fit in 5
  • Young Ambassador videos: Encouraging pupils to get active at home. Short, sharp exercises aimed at younger and older pupils

A mix of these resources can be used to keep ideas fresh and schools will be notified as new resources are produced.
