THE community response in Cardigan to the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow, with scores of people volunteering to give their time to help others - from collecting vital cancer drugs to acting as a breakdown service.

Laura Winter, one of those co-ordinating the efforts of Cardigan Corona Virus Help alongside Vicki Moore and Jodie Dunseath, said the offers to help were continuing to flood in and she was “amazed“ at the generosity of people.

“Once, again, Cardigan is rallying round and we are so lucky we live in such a great community,” said Laura.

“So much has happened in such a short time and we have more than 60 people in various roles and they are now being coordinated through Busy Bees.”

The group has gone from strength to strength and has teamed up with Cardigan Foodbank to help buy urgently-needed supplies and is also able to pick up and deliver prescriptions to people who are self-isolating or unable to leave their homes.

While shopping for supplies for the Foodbank with £130 supplied from donations, another shopper in Tesco donated £50 there and then to help out.

An elderly couple who were stranded when their car broke down while on their way to pick up a prescription were also helped to get home safely and collect their medication.

“We are also using a bikers’ group called Man Up And Ride (MAUR). I was contacted by Stephen Jones, from Llechryd who I have known all my life and they asked if they can help out,” said Laura.

“They have been going down to Glangwili Hospital and getting things such as cancer drugs for patients that are not stocked locally. They go out in pairs in case they do have a problem and they can ensure both riders are safe. They are wearing hi viz jackets supplied by Stuart Dunseath from Tanygroes Car Dismantlers."

The Cardigan help group is operating as far afield as Llanarth to the north and Newport in the south, as well as out towards Newcastle Emlyn and Llandysul.
