A FULL-SCALE search was launched in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday, January 15) over fears someone had fallen into the River Teifi at Cardigan.

Emergency services - involving Coastguard rescue teams from Cardigan and Moylegrove, Cardigan RNLI inshore lifeboat, firefighters and police - were called to the scene at Cardigan bridge at around 1.30pm but an extensive search failed to find anyone and the operation came to an end around 3.45am.

A Dyfed-Powys spokesperson said: “Shortly after 1.30am on January 15, Dyfed-Powys Police received a report from a member of the public who saw what they believed to be a person fall into the river from Castle Bridge.

“A search of the river was quickly commenced between police, fire and rescue, Coastguard and RNLI, using specialist equipment, and CCTV was also reviewed.

“No person was found in the water and the search was stood down at around 3.45am.”
