THIS weekend’s Cardigan carnival has been postponed because of the severe weather warning issued by the Met Office.

Heavy rain and gale force winds gusting up to 50mph are set to sweep across the area in the next couple of days and a yellow alert has been issued by forecasters.

Months of hard work have gone into planning the events but carnival organisers have reluctantly taken the decision to call off tomorrow night’s (Friday, August 9) barrel race and the carnival parade through the town on Saturday.

It is hoped to rearrange both events in the near future.

A statement issued by carnival organisers said: “Due to the severe weather warnings now in place for Friday and Saturday the carnival committee has decided to postpone both the barrel race and the Carnival in the interests of public safety.

“We are currently looking at September 7 as a new date for the Carnival and will confirm this and revised barrel race plans as soon as possible.

“We'd like to thank you for your support with all the other events so far this week.

“The quiz will still take place on Thursday and Tommo's Decades Disco will still go ahead on Saturday evening. Thank you #CardiGras”

Abercych Festival has also been postponed in light of the bad weather. It too had been scheduled to take place on Saturday (August 10) and has now been put back a week until Saturday, August 17.
