A LLANDYSUL man who took part in his first London Marathon earlier this year has smashed his fund-raising target.
Llyr Tobias, from Croeslan, had set himself the goal of raising £2,000 for Children With Cancer UK – but has ended up raising nearly three times that amount after he handed over a cheque for a whopping £5,614.
“The marathon was an amazing experience, tough going, but I am so, so happy that I have raised so much for Children With Cancer UK,” said the 26-year-old linesman for Western Power Distribution.
“This money will go towards funding vital research and help save lives of children diagnosed with cancer.
“I am overwhelmed by the support and donations given and would like to thank every single person and local companies which have donated towards the cause.”
And not only did Llyr smash his fund-raising target, he also beat his predicted time.
He had has set his sights on completing the 26.2-mile course around London’s famous landmarks in four-and-a-half hour.
And he pipped that by nine minutes, coming home in four hours 21 minutes to make all the hard training worthwhile.
