CARDIGAN and Crymych have been named in a list of the cheapest places to buy diesel in the UK, according to Petrolprices.com, the UK’s leading fuel information service.

Analysing prices from across the UK over the last month, PetrolPrices has released research that reveals the cheapest 20 towns and cities to buy petrol and diesel, with the prices starting at £118.9 a litre for petrol.

PetrolPrices has been able to determine the local average in each area to identify and determine where the cheapest places are to fill up your tank.

Both Cardigan and Crymych areas fared well when it came to the price of diesel, both featuring in the top-10 list from throughout the UK, with Cardigan seventh and Crymych 10th.

Stations in the Cardigan area saw an average price for diesel of £1.28.6p, while in the Crymych area it was £1.28.9. The cheapest place was Shildon, in County Durham, at £1.27.9

The news comes as RAC research reveals that nationally fuel prices increased by 5p a litre last month. This is the second highest price rise since 2000, with May 2018 being the highest, and it comes as retailers pass on wholesale price increases to customers after the cost of oil increased by more than $3 a barrel.

The increase is expected to add around £3 to the cost of filling up an average family car.

Kitty Bates, of PetrolPrices.com, said: “Fuel prices can vary massively across the country; it can vary up to 30ppl between the cheapest station and the most expensive motorway station, so checking for the cheapest or best value station near you, en-route or at your destination can save you money.

“We have calculated that our members saved around £200 a year by comparing petrol stations near them with many surprised to discover nearby petrol stations they never even knew existed.”
