A MAN who spat at a police officer in Cardigan has been given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to pay compensation.
Michael Anthony Murtagh, of Bryn y Mor Terrace, Aberaeron, admitted assaulting a police officer in the town on March 16 and also to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.
Magistrates at Aberystwyth Justice Centre sentenced the 33-year-old to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. Murtagh will also be electronically tagged and under curfew for 15 weeks. He must stay at his home address between 7pm and 6am.
Murtagh was also ordered to pay £200 compensation, along with £85 costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
