THIS year’s Cenarth River Festival will not take place.

A lack of volunteers to help stage the popular annual event on the River Teifi means it has been cancelled, though it is hoped fresh faces will come forward and the festival can return in 2020.

Other village events also now hang in the balance unless more people help out.

Cenarth Village Association, which runs the festival which featured coracle racing, music, displays including Llandysul Paddlers, stalls, a duck race and a fun dog show, has sent a letter to local residents telling them the reasons behind the difficult decision to cancel.

It said: “The last letter sent to you notifying you of the AGM included a request for village residents to come forward and assist the committee with all of the events that it organises in the village, such as the River Festival, the planting and maintenance of the planters, the Christmas tree, the New Year fireworks and the fund-raising activities that pay for all these things and for village equipment such as defibrillators.

“Unfortunately, no new people from the village came forward to offer support at the AGM.

“Therefore, with regret the committee will be unable to organise some of these events this year. As previously explained, the committee is small and has taken on a lot of work behind the scenes to make these things happen. We also all have very busy working and family lives.

“There will be no River Festival in 2019. This is disappointing but an inevitable consequence of lack of support. The planters will be planted and maintained this year and probably next year.

“The organisation of the Christmas tree and the New Year fireworks and fund-raising activities are in doubt. These will be discussed at our next meeting which is on May 9 at 7pm in the White Hart.

“If you wish the above activities to continue, please come along and offer your support so the organisational burden can be spread more evenly. We would love more people on board so that the organisational burden can be spread more evenly.”
