PLANS are in the pipeline to carry out work on Neuadd Emlyn Hall in Newcastle Emlyn.
The building in Castle Street needs major renovation work and a meeting of the town council heard it was struggling to obtain insurance cover without the work being first carried out.
Town councillors voted to add the hall to the council’s own insurance policy, with the extra premium and any costs being met by the hall trustees.
“There are plans I understand to make it what it was years ago,” said town mayor Cllr Cefin Evans.
“There are Emlyn Halls up and down the country and somewhere along the line there is a town council responsibility. The hall was gifted to the town and we have some sort of responsibility as long as it does not incur extra cost on the town council.”
Cllr Barry Evans said: “It is going to get better even if it’s only a small amount there will be an improvement. It cannot be left in the position it has been in the last few years.”
His view was back by Cllr Kelvin Baker who said the hall trustees should be given all help possible to get work started.
Cllr Peter Lewis added: “I think we have to go with it but it is a risky business.”
