SCREWFIX is set to open a branch in Cardigan – creating 12 new jobs - after being given the green light by planners.

The national retailer which supplies tools, accessories and hardware products to the building trade has been given the go-ahead by Ceredigion County Council for a new site at unit no.7 at Parc Teifi.

It lies on the western edge of the business park and is currently vacant, having last been occupied as a call centre some six or seven years ago.

Its opening is expected to see 12 members of staff employed on the premises, four of which will be full-time. It will be open seven days a week.

When the proposal was originally put forward, it was opposed by Cardigan Town Council, which put in an objection to Ceredigion County Council planning officials but that has been rejected.

Town councillors argued that Screwfix’s proposal did not bring anything different to the town and would have a negative impact on existing family-run businesses in the area.
