A LLECHRYD man took his own life shortly after returning from an overseas holiday with his girlfriend.

Jonathan Trevitt, of Ty Rhos, Llechryd, was found hanged in the garage of his home shortly after coming back from a trip to Bulgaria, an inquest heard at Aberystwyth Justice Centre.

Mr Trevitt, 42, had been dropped off at his home in the early hours of the morning of Saturday, August 18 by his girlfriend Emma White.

She said Mr Trevitt had received a phone call before boarding the plane to come home that had upset him but she did not think it was too serious. She said she knew Mr Trevitt had suffered from depression in the past but had seen no signs while they were together.

Miss White did not hear from him at all the following day and went round to the house that evening but got no response. She became increasingly worried and returned on Sunday morning and along with a friend of Mr Trevitt’s they got into the house with a spare key but there was no sign of him.

They then went to the garage, where a note had been attached to the door warning them not to enter. Keys had been broken off in the door locks and the police were called, the inquest heard.

When the police broke into the garage, they found Mr Trevitt had hanged himself.

Ex-wife Joanne Trevitt said her former husband had suffered from depression for the past three and a half years, triggered by an event in 2015.

“There were good and bad times because of this,” she said. “Sometimes it was like walking on egg shells.”

Ceredigion coroner Peter Brunton said medical records showed Mr Trevitt had suffered with mental health issues over 20 years but had not sought help until back in 2015.

Mr Brunton said: “Clearly he was deeply troubled by something and the most recent event was in 2015. This seems like some sort of cloud weighing upon him.

“The indications are it continued to trouble him and dog his thoughts.”

He recorded a conclusion of suicide while suffering from a depressive illness.
