THERE'S a couple of fresh faces behind the bar at the Nag’s Head at Abercych.

But new landlord and landlady Dewi and Jacqui Davies aren't complete strangers to the locals.

The couple already own award-winning Clydey Cottages further along the Cych Valley and see taking over the pub as a natural extension of that business.

Previous owners Steve and Tracy Miller have decided to move on after three years and now Dewi and Jacqui are looking to further build on their success.

"There are a lot of similarities and overlaps with our current family-friendly holiday cottage business," said Dewi.

"They complement each other well. Most of our guests already enjoy coming down to the pub and we will be looking to encourage them more as well as looking after the locals.

"I have always had a dream of running my own pub, like most real ale drinkers I think, and we are really looking forward to it."

The couple certainly have a proven track record in the hospitality business, with Clydey Cottages voted the best self-catering cottages to stay in Wales in both 2010 and 2015. They have also been voted best place to stay in Pembrokeshire from 2009-2017.

"We are delighted to have taken over such a flourishing pub," added Jacqui.

"It's now one of the most popular pubs in the area and we are also lucky to inherit an excellent team."

Darcy Hawker will be front of house, with Joe Jones heading up the kitchen and Zoe Noble the bar.

"We will be looking to put our own personal stamp on the pub but there won't be that many changes. If it ain't broke don't fix it," said Dewi.

"It's very much business as usual and we look forward to greeting both old and new customers."
