A Newport teenager has been banned from the road for a year after admitting drink-driving.
William Christopher Benham, of Fishguard Road, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal alcohol limit when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, July 24.
Abul Hussain, prosecuting, told magistrates the Vauxhall Corsa was being driven very slowly and was not keeping a straight path on the carriageway when police spotted it at Lower Town, Fishguard, on July 6.
Benham was found to have 48mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg.
Mark Layton, defending, said: “Mr Benham does not accept the manner of driving described. He accepts that he had a couple of drinks before taking the car out.
“He is sorry for the offence.”
Mr Layton added that Benham, 18, was previously of clean character and had never appeared in court before.
Magistrates fined restaurant worker Benham £140 and ordered him to pay £85 court costs and a £30 surcharge.
He was banned from driving for 12 months.
