AN angry Cardigan woman who drove at a woman and her young child after making threats near a local school has been jailed.

Sarah Prydderch-Jones, of North Road, appeared from custody at Haverfordwest magistrates court on Tuesday afternoon.

She pleaded guilty to failing to provide a breath sample while suspected of drink-driving, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with the intention of causing harassment, alarm or distress.

The court heard that the mother was approached by Prydderch-Jones, 32, who she had never met before, while she was outside Cardigan primary school with her young daughter at lunchtime on February 13.

She spoke to her normally initially, then swore and made threats.

The woman felt threatened and walked away through the nearby car park, but Prydderch-Jones drove straight at her, swerving to avoid mother and child at the last minute before leaving the scene.

Prydderch-Jones appeared outside the mother's house at 9.30pm to shout abuse at her, and began banging on her windows and swearing.

Vaughan Prithard-Jones, prosecuting, said: “She was clearly angry by her demeanour and body language.”

He added: “The incident started at 1pm and it continued that night. She had to find out where the complainant lived and made threats to her. The victim has no idea what this woman has against her.”

Police caught up with Prydderch-Jones as she drove through the town centre, and could smell alcohol when they stopped her, but she failed to provide an evidential sample at the police station.

Nick Devonald, defending, told the bench that the victim was with Prydderch-Jones’ ex-partner.

He added that Prydderch-Jones had recently gained accommodation and had a drug and alcohol support worker.

The court heard that the offences were committed while she was on crown court bail and subject to a community order.

Magistrates told Prydderch-Jones she had used the car as a weapon and sentenced her to 16 weeks in custody for each offence, to run concurrently. She was ordered to pay a £115 surcharge and banned from driving for two years.

An indefinite restraining order was imposed prohibiting Prydderch-Jones from contacting the woman or going to her address.
