THE QUESTION of what will happen at the site of the existing Cardigan Hospital at Pontycleifion when the new integrated health care centre is built was raised at a meeting of the town council.
Contractors for Hywel Dda Health Board are due to start work on the new £23.8m health centre at Bathhouse Road next month after years of wrangling and controversy and it is due to be completed by the end of 2019.
Town mayor Cllr Richard Jones said: “We don’t know what is going to happen to the old hospital. Should we make sure we know what is going on and get our solicitors involved?”
Cllr Catrin Miles said she was willing to ask the officers at the League of Friends as they had so much knowledge about the hospital.
“Perhaps it has become part of the health authority but I am willing to check and report back,” she said
Cllr John Adams-Lewis, a long-standing critic of the new health centre, said: “We should not let the health authority stand on our toes and get rid of the hospital willy nilly.
“People of the town have paid for that over the years and it’s a memorial hospital.”
