TODDLERS in Cardigan can now enjoy playtime in a new garden in Cylch Meithrin Aberteifi.

What was an overgrown and dangerous area at the centre is now level, open and fun for children thanks to help from Bobby Simmons.

The nursery wanted to do up the overgrown garden because outdoor play is important for the children’s development.

Kristin Edwards from Cylch Meithrin Aberteifi said: “It is all part of the children’s development. Some of the children here might not have gardens at home so now we get to provide this. We follow the foundation phase of teaching and part of that means making sure the children have continuous access to the outdoors.”

When Bobby, from RS Arb Tree and Land Management in Penbryn, heard the nursery were having trouble raising the funds to make over the garden due to cuts he volunteered to do the work for them.

It took three days of manual work and one day of finding supplies that local businesses would donate for the project to be completed.

Bobby said: “I have helped with projects like this before. It is important to me that kids get what they need. These days with technology it’s important that the children have something else to balance this out. I’d like to thank all the local suppliers for their generosity and the help people have given me to complete this project.”

The garden is now a level green open space with fencing and a Wendy house for the children to enjoy all year round.

Kristin said: “The garden is wonderful now and we are very grateful for all the work Bobby put in to do this.”
