Ceredigion County Council car parks could see a major revamp as a task and finish group investigate parking charges.

The Cardigan Town Traders have been invited to join a meeting where the car parks are being reviewed.

Cardigan hit national headlines in the summer of 2015 when ticket machines were vandalised.

Traders reported on the dramatic rise in sales when parking was free in the town.

Since then the #freecardigan campaign has been launched where local people have joined together in a fight to change the car parking charges in the town.

The Vice Chairman will be attending the Council meeting to discuss the period of when the ticket machines were out of order due to vandalism.

The Cardigan Traders Chairman, Martin Radley has urged all of the town traders in their monthly meeting to fill out an online questionnaire on the topic.

A Statement from Ceredigion County Council said: “The Thriving Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee is currently undertaking a task and finish group review of the car parking charging regime within the County.

“The task and finish group is still at the investigative stage of collecting evidence. The Committee’s Task and Finish Group has written to the Chambers of Commerce / Trade to invite them to participate in their next meeting as part of their evidence gathering.”

The results of the task and finish group will be reported in a Thriving Communities Overview and Scrutiny Committee in the future, which will be open to the public.
