Hands off our park - those were the signs greeting a Welsh Assembly planning inspector when he visited the Maesglas play area in Cardigan on Thursday.
Scores of residents turned out to play and picnic on the green space where local housing association Tai Ceredigion wants to build nine new homes.
The long running campaign by local residents to keep the space has led to the scheme being recommended for refusal by county planners with Tai Ceredigion appealing over non-determination.
An application to make the area an official village green is still going through legal processes.
Now residents are waiting on tenterhooks to hear if the inspector will grant Tai Ceredigion's appeal - or refuse it.
"The very least we want is a public inquiry," said Teresa Harries of the North Cardigan Action and Support Group.
"This space has been used by local residents for generations and we want it kept that way."
Residents also point to the site's propensity to flood - a torrential downpour earlier last week led to the play area and surrounding homes being inches deep in water.
The inspector's decision is due in the next four to six weeks.
North Cardigan Action and Support Group want to thank everyone who turned up for their support.
