THIS autumn marks the 40th anniversary of the first ascent of ‘Everest: The Hard Way’, when the late Dougal Haston and Doug Scott climbed the mountain’s massive South West Face.
Audiences at Theatr Mwldan have the chance to hear the exciting story behind the achievement on Friday, October 2, at 7.30pm when Doug will tell of the epic expedition and climb, how his life led up to this defining moment and where it took him on his return from the summit.
Doug Scott has made 45 expeditions to the high mountains of Asia. He has reached the summit of 40 peaks, of which half were climbed by new routes or for the first time in Alpine Style.
Apart from his climb up the South West Face of Everest with Dougal Haston during Chris Bonington’s Expedition of 1975, he has made all his climbs in lightweight or Alpine Style, without the use of artificial oxygen. He has reached the highest peaks on all seven continents – ‘the seven summits’.
Tickets are available from Theatr Mwldan’s box office on 01239 621200, online or via smartphone at www.mwldan.co.uk
