NEWCASTLE Emlyn RFC's dream of reaching the WRU National Plate Final ended in a 35-6 semi-final defeat to Penallta at Neath on Saturday.
The Red and Whites found the unbeaten Division One East league leaders a step too far as the Rhymney Valley club notched a solid win in the end.
Penallta, who had lead 13-3 at half-time, will now go on to face Treorchy in the showpiece final at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on April 30.
Having topped their group, Newcastle Emlyn had gone on to beat Rhydyfelin and Kenfig Hill to reach the last four of this year's national competition.
Penallta, however, were too strong on the day for the Division One West high-flyers, who return to league action at home to Whitland on Saturday, April 9.
Rivals Crymych moved above them into top spot with their sixth win of the season on Saturday, although Newcastle Emlyn have four league games in hand.
