When it comes to dedication and long service few can hold a candle to Geraint Davies of Aberaeron who has just started his 40th year as general secretary of the Costcutter Football League.

He was appointed secretary of the old Cardiganshire Football League in July 1980 and had already served for several years as referees’ secretary.

During his time as a league official he was also a Class A referee who officiated at top games throughout Wales.

After attending the league AGM the popular official said “I don’t know where the time has gone – it has just flown and I have enjoyed it immensely.”
