PEMBROKESHIRE League cricketers forced to kick their heels since the start of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic, are awaiting news this week that could lead to cup cricket.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has suspended recreational cricket until Saturday, August 1, but there are hopes of saving part of the season via cup competitions.

The Welsh Government is to make an announcement on Friday in relation to further easing of restrictions and three days later the Pembroke County Cricket Club executive will meet to decide if the sport can go ahead.

An ECB spokesperson said “As cricket is a non-contact sport there are very low risks of exposure, and the game can be played as safely as many other activities being currently permitted.”
