Clarbeston Road AFC have won the 2020 West Wales Community Club of the Year category.

The club learnt of the honour, which is part of the annual FAW/McDonald’s Grassroots Football Awards, earlier today.

They will now be in contention with other regional winners for the overall Welsh Community Club of the Year title.

"We've done a lot of work recently and our Chairman Steve Brown has been the main man behind it all," said long standing member Huw Bevan.

"We've won the national award twice before, in 2003 and 2008, so it would be nice to get the hat trick."

One of the club's recent initiatives has been to take over the running of the Cleddau Warriors, Pembrokeshire's disability football team.

"We are a community based club and our ethos is to give everyone a go," added Bevan.

"We've helped coach the Warriors them since their inception and have been very pleased to be able to help."

Clarby have two senior teams playing in the Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League and have several junior teams who participate in the Todaro’s Hair and Beauty Pembrokeshire Junior Football League.

The Club received the confirmation from Daniel Delahay, Football Development Officer, FAW Trust: “A regional reception awards ceremony will be held – unfortunately a date cannot be confirmed due to the Coronavirus," he said.

"As soon as it is safe to do so I will be back in touch with the club with details of the ceremony.”
