Welsh Veterans Premier League: Nelson Cavaliers 40s 2-3 Hakin United 40s
IT was a great win for Hakin United Over 40s on a game that was played on the 3G surface in Bargoed.
The result means that the Veteran Vikings are up to fourth place in the table, nine points behind leaders Trefelin BGC.
Prior to kick off there was a minutes silence for Karl ‘Wolfie’ Allen, who sadly passed away last week.
Hakin made a positive start to the game last Sunday, but found themselves 1-0 after 20 minutes.
However, Richard Bland levelled matters before the break as he hammered home a loose ball in the box following a free kick.
In the second half, Hakin took the lead as Richard Perry played in Matthew Price, who rounded the keeper and rolled the ball into an empty net to make it 2-1.
Nelson were level inside the last quarter with the Hakin players looking for an offside flag that never came.
Hakin had the final say though as Matthew Price picked up the ball on the left, beat his marker and set up Paul Jones to net the winner from close range.
The Over 40s next play on Sunday, March 8, when they go to the capital to visit Cardiff Corries.
Hakin United Over 40s squad: Jason Morgan, Gerard Gray, Richard Bland, Adam Collins, Gary Dawes, Marc Gray, Richard Perry, Jonathan James, Paul Jones, Matthew Price, Leigh Walters (Adrian Roberts).
