FOOTBALL ROUND-UP

Action was thin on the ground in the Costcutter League at the weekend as ten league and cup games were washed out and only the St Dogmaels versus Padarn United cup tie and Division One clash between Felinfach and Ffostrasol went ahead.

Not so long ago School Field at St Dogmaels was invariably a venue that fell foul of wet weather, but extensive drainage works have transformed the strip and nowadays very few games are called off.

Division One leaders Saints turned in a first-rate showing in brushing aside Aberystwyth-based visitors Padarn United 6-1 in round two of Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies.

The Teifi Estuary villagers made a slow start against Felinfach the previous week but they were out of the traps in double quick time on Saturday as they took the game to the visitors and hit four goals before the interval.

After Louis Harding was brought down early on Rhys Jones slotted the penalty and soon afterwards Harding doubled the advantage and also got the third goal before Dan Jones made it plain sailing with the fourth.

Home manager Steve Jerry Williams took off five regulars at half time and brought on some of the talented youngsters coming through at the club.

The changes did not affect the home performance and it was more of the same until the final whistle with Rhys Jones going on to complete a brilliant hat-trick.

Ffostrasol moved off the bottom of Division One with a first win at the twelfth attempt when emerging 4-2 winners at Felinfach.

As Wanderers controlled the game for lengthy periods their marksmen were Dafydd Phillips who bagged a brace of goals, Gwynfor Bowen and Carwyn Griffiths while Rhys John and Kieran Boyes netted for the homesters.
