Climaxes in local sport don’t come more nail-biting than the Cardigan & District Pool League 7s KO final between Red Lion and Lamb A at the rugby clubhouse.

Reigning league champions Lamb appeared to be sauntering to victory when taking a three-game lead through Richard Eldridge who overcame Luke Davies, Chris Truslove, a winner against Dyf Allen and skipper Gary Murtagh who out-potted his opposite number Red captain Dominic Williams.

But then the tide turned as Welsh international brothers Lee and Scott Davies were turned over by Gary Lawrence and Rob Furney respectively, and as excitement mounted former Lamb cueist Peter Almond saw off the challenge of Richard Owen.

In a mistake-strewn deciding game veteran Lamb cueist Mark Murtagh, a former Lancashire champion, kept cool under pressure to beat Gwyn Evans and win the match 4-3 to the delight of his team-mates.
