Cardigan bowling postman Kevin James expressed thanks to his many supporters before jetting out to Australia on Sunday for the World Champion of Champions Singles event.

The 39-year-old former British Isles Outdoor Champion qualified for the tournament when crowned Welsh Champion for the second time at Llandrindod Wells last year.

He will come up against 25 competitors from countries across the globe at Adelaide Bowling Club in South Australia from Monday, October 28 to Sunday, November 3.

It will not be a new experience for the Cardigan Bowling Club stalwart to carry the flag for his country Down Under as he also competed in the 2007 world championship at Warilla Bowling Club in New South Wales when finishing fifth.

On his trip to Oz he is accompanied by wife Louise, also an international bowler, children Dean, Holly and Alex and elder brother Colin and wife Enfys.

After the tournament the family plan to spend five days in the Melbourne area.

Looking forward to the action James said: “I am going out a week beforehand to get plenty of practice.”

Asked how he rated his chance against the top exponents on the planet he said: “I think it depends on how I adapt to the greens, which are a good bit faster than ours.”

And he added: “I have been inundated with good luck messages from the Cardigan area and further afield and would like extend my sincere thanks to everyone. I will give it my best shot for Wales.”

A return to Australia is sure to evoke happy memories for Kevin and Louise – after the 2007 world event they were married on Bondi Beach in Sydney.
