Sports followers and others in the Cardigan area and further afield heard with profound regret of the death of former talented all-round sportsman Alan Pocock.
He was a classy opening batsman for former Cardigan Cricket Club and with Haverfordwest in the Pembroke County League.
A prolific goal-kicking fullback with Cardigan Rugby Club, he was also a versatile footballer who played for Cardigan Town in the Cardiganshire League and a more than useful golfer.
Brought up on the town’s Bronydre estate, Mr Pocock was for many years employed at the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Aberporth.
He died peacefully at his home, Ivyleigh, Pontycleifion, Cardigan, on Friday, aged 73.
Mr Pocock leaves his wife Joan and children, to whom the sympathy of countless friends over a wide area is extended.
The funeral is being held on Thursday with a public service at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth at 12.15pm. There are no flowers by request and further details can be obtained from funeral director Peter Evans on 01239 615266.
