CARDIGAN Croquet Club lost 6-10 in the opening match of the season at Llandovery Croquet Club.

Playing away on beautifully cut bowling green lawn proved a little too much for the team though Dick Burnett, with partner Gary Hawker, won two out of their three matches and new member Ben Lake, playing in the afternoon with Dick, won both his first matches for the club, 7-6/7-5.

Revenge was coming however for Cardigan, for in the return match, back at home on the lawns at the Cliff Hotel, Cardigan beat Llandovery 9-7, a team which included again former Welsh Captain and National Open Champion, John Evans.

In the final match, Cardigan were winning 8-7 but tying at 5-5 on the last hoop which they won.

The third match was against Aberdovey Croquet Club , a home match at the Cliff. Last season, playing in Aberdovey, the home side easily beat Cardigan 9–3 but again revenge was at hand and this season Cardigan won easily 11-1 with excellent performances from Clive and Nicola Harrison

Next fixture is against Aberdovey away on October 2 with possible matches against new 2019 teams the Mumbles Croquet Club and Llanidloes Croquet Club before the end of the season on October 31. There is no team selection, with all members who wish to play for the club given an opportunity.

If you are interested in joining the club, it plays on Monday, Thursday and Friday at the Cliff from 2pm. For further information, contact the secretary on 07786 568253.
