Football this week

There are midweek games for clubs in the top two tiers of the Costcutter League and a full programme on Saturday.

Last season’s Division One runners-up Crannog started the campaign by handing out a six of the best caning to promoted Aberporth and the Llangrannog high-flyers will doubtless hope to bank further points from the visits of Cardigan Town and Dewi Stars.

Reigning champions St Dogmaels shared the spoils against Cardigan and will be anxious to get off the mark when Llanboidy visit School Field in midweek and double up by springing an away win against Ffostrasol.

Newcastle Emlyn and Llandysul, who both opened with maximum points, go head-to-head at Parc Emlyn while on Saturday Llandysul take on Llanboidy at Cae Dandre and Emlyn are in Welsh Cup action.

After an opening day draw at Felinfach last term’s third-placed Lampeter Town clash with Dewi Stars at Llanddewi Brefi and on Saturday host Aberporth at North Road.

Cardigan showed against neighbours Saints that they will be no pushovers this season under new player/manager James Evans. The performance has given rise for optimism among supporters before visiting the Urdd Centre to take on Crannog and hosting Felinfach.

New Quay, relegated Aberaeron Reserves and Cardigan-based Maesglas all started on the straight and narrow with the latter thumping St Dogmaels Reserves 5-0 at School Field.

New Quay host another relegated club Bargod Rangers in midweek and visit relegated Bargod Rangers at the weekend while newly-formed Crymych are at home against Crannog Reserves on Saturday.
