Llechryd promoted

After clinching promotion in the Pembroke County Cricket League Division Two leaders Llechryd are on course to be crowned champions.

A six-wicket win at Pembroke gave the Teifisiders’ their 12th success of a superb campaign and now John Curran and team-mates look forward to hosting Pembroke Dock this weekend and the following Saturday second in the table Narberth come calling for a title decider.

Fourth-placed Pembroke found it tough going against tight bowling and sharp ground fielding as the homesters struggled to reach 110-9.

Sam Davies was top scorer with 19 and Jack Harries made 18 but the total was never going to be enough to win the game.

Andrew Fletcher snapped four wickets for 19 runs and veteran Peter Betterley returned figures of 2-10.

Llechryd knocked off the runs for the loss of four wickets and banked 29 points as John Curran wielded the willow to good effect in an innings of 49, while Steve Smith and Rhys Beard both scored 23.

As the promotion celebrations got underway skipper Curran said: “It has been a great effort from the players and I thank them for their support and also everyone behind the scenes at the club and our sponsors.”

Llechryd 2nds couldn’t make it a double as they went by seven wickets against Crymych in a Division Four game at the RDM Oval.

In a Llechryd total of 99 Ollie Roberts was again top scorer with 24 and Peter Gregory contributed 23.

The Preselimen got the runs for the loss of three wickets with Richard Thorne making 43.
