CLWB Rhwyfo Aberporth welcomed 16 Italian athletes and their coaches to the Welsh Sea Rowing Association Joint League Race recently.

This year’s event proved to be a spectacle seeing more than 20 boats and 180 rowers from Ynys Môn to Mumbles visiting the village to join in the competition and celebrations.

Aberporth rowers turned in some great performances in challenging conditions and Tresaith Mariners provided expert safety cover on the water.

Aberporth junior team (Ellie English, Liam Jones, Rhys Davies, Danielle Jones and cox Sarah Skinner) took victory by an impressive margin, securing their lead at the top of the league this season.

Captain Leanne Vittle, presented the head coach of the Italian squad with a Welsh Sea Rowing Association pennant and thanked them for attending the regatta weekend.

They were treated to fantastic local food and hospitality at the Buoy Ashore and great entertainment from Ar ôl Tri, El Drongo and Samuel Walters at the Ship, Aberporth.

The president of the Italian Fixed Seat Rowing Federation said: “I want to thank you and your teams for the wonderful hospitality you reserved to our national team.

“It was wonderful, we are very happy for the friendship developed in these years. Our coach and member of Italian board, Roberto Moscatelli, spoke to us about the magnificent atmosphere they were involved in during all the days from the welcome in the airport to the final greetings.

"Our athletes immediately felt themselves at home thanks to the fantastic welcome dinner and also other convivial moments were extremely great.”
