A WEST Wales sailor has clinched a spot on the 2020 ilovesailing calendar with a picture of Tresaith Mariners sailing at sunset.

Andy Strudwick of Newcastle Emlyn has claimed one of two slots available in May, along with Alasdair McQuire from Leeds, as the competition reaches the halfway point.

Each month sailing enthusiasts and amateur and professional photographers share their favourite sailing photos in the hope of claiming a spot on the calendar.

Two winners are picked each month between March and July to represent a different month on the 2020 calendar, with the final two spots being selected in August from all the other entries made between March and July.

One of the May winners comes from Andy, entitled ‘Sunset Sail with Tresaith Mariners’.

Commenting on his winning shot, which was taken at Tresaith Beach on the west Wales coast in Cardigan Bay, Andy said: “I am totally over the moon to win a place in the calendar with my photo.

“It was a wonderful night to be out safety boating for the Tresaith Mariners when I captured this shot of our amazing Welsh coastline. This was taken during our Wednesday evening training, teaching local youngsters to sail.”

As well as their spots on the 2020 calendar Alasdair and Andy also win:

Two tickets to the Southampton Boat Show for the official prizegiving plus afternoon tea in the RYA members’ lounge at the show; a canvas print of their winning shot; a copy of the 2020 calendar; an RYA goody bag and the much loved and coveted ilovesailing rubber duck.

All you have to do to take part is post your favourite sailing photo(s) on to the ilovesailing Facebook page or email your entry to emma.slater@rya.org.uk.
