Lifting a trophy during a first season as manager is cause for celebration but Gwynfor Edwards has surpassed all expectations in lifting no fewer than four in his first stint in charge of men and ladies teams in Ceredigion.

The 39-year-old, who has assisted in the Wales senior set-up and been on the coaching staff at Bangor City, Pontarddulais and Kidwelly, was appointed head coach at Costcutter League Club Llandysul before the start of the season and also put in charge of Aberystwyth Ladies.

Putting great emphasis on youth the new man at the helm galvanised the Teifi Valley club to mount a title challenge – they eventually finished fourth – and led them to victory in the Costcutter League Cup and Cardigan Bay Cup as well as reaching the final of Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies.

It was also success all the way for the ladies as Aberystwyth lifted the league title and captured the Central Wales Cup.

Already looking forward to a second season at Llandysul Park the amicable coach said: “I honestly believe that the young local players at the club could transform Llandysul into one of the best around at this level for the next five years.”
