Llandysul netted the only goal of a scrappy Costcutter League Cup Final against a gallant Crannog outfit at Aberaeron.

A bumpy Square Field strip with dead grass lying on the surface made life difficult for both sides and it was hardly surprising that the contest did not reach any heights.

Afterwards Llandysul manager Gwynfor Edwards said: β€œIt was not easy on that pitch but the lads stuck to the task and I think they deserved to win.”

The rivals go head-to-head for a second time next Monday when clashing in the Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies final at Park Avenue in Aberystwyth (kick-off 7pm).

The Swallows got the all-important goal after 35 minutes when 39-year-old striker Mathew Newbold took advantage of an error in the Crannog defence to slot home.

The Llangrannog men also had their moments when George Colven and Michael Glover went close, but the Teifisiders held out for victory.

Defenders Scott Mayes and skipper Dean Jones stood out for Llandysul as did man-of-the-match Lewis Jones in midfield.
