FOOTBALL ROUND-UP

Warming up for this weekend’s Cwpan Coffa Dai Dynamo Davies quarter-final tie against Penparcau, unbeaten Costcutter League Division One leaders St Dogmaels outclassed relegation-haunted Aberaeron Reserves who crashed 11-0 at School Field.

It was no more than a training session for the league top dogs against the very poor visitors who along with Bargod Rangers appear doomed for the drop into Division Two.

For Saints, who led 7-0 at the break, central midfielder Adam Williams led the goal rush with a hat-trick, Chris Morgan and Rhys Jones bagged a brace of goals apiece and the other marksmen were Peter Almond, Louis Harding, Aled Rees and Dan Jones. Referee Wyn Roberts mercifully saved Aeron further embarrassment when calling a halt before the full 90 minutes had elapsed.

It could be a lot closer on the banks of the Teifi this coming Saturday when the top two in the Costcutter and Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League clash for a Cwpan Dai semi-final spot.

Reigning champions Lampeter Town, who tackle St Dogmaels in the last eight of the J Emrys Morgan Cup later this month, will not be retaining their title after going down 3-1 at Newcastle Emlyn in a Friday evening encounter.

For one of the very few times this term Emlyn were able to field their strongest line-up and showed clearly that they can be a match for anyone at this level.

A player from each side was red-carded but that could not detract from a confident team performance from the hosts.

The visitors led after the opening 45 minutes from their only chance of the half, but the Reds came back strongly during the second period as central defender George Lowry headed them level, and substitutes Robbie Jenkins and youngster Jake Shakespeare made it plain sailing.

Llandysul were hoping to get some action before this weekend’s Cwpan Dai away tie against Bow Street Reserves but doomed Bargod Rangers failed to raise a team for the game at Parc Puw.

Felinfach won for the seventh time after beating visiting Cardigan Town 3-1 and with two fixtures outstanding appear destined for a mid-table spot.

For the homesters Rhys John James netted twice and Leon Lane was also on target.

Who goes up from Division Two with champions Dewi Stars is yet to be determined but Aberporth gained a march on rivals Maesglas with a 4-2 win over St Dogmaels Reserves at Parcllyn. Craig Wilks (2), Dafydd Owens and Michael King were the home goal-scorers.

Maesglas earned a point in a 1-1 draw against the champions at Maes Radley where Kieran Harman netted for the Blues and Ifan Thomas was on target for Stars.
