Crymych 20 Dunvant 18

With the crunch Championship encounter between Newcastle Emlyn and visitors Maesteg Quins washed out and Cardigan of League 3 West A not in action until November 24, Crymych of League 1 West took centre stage and rose to the occasion with a thrilling win over Dunvant in an entertaining clash at Parc Lloyd Thomas.

The north Pembrokeshire villagers were languishing three from bottom but a superb all-round performance gave them a deserved victory and enabled a move up the table.

There were many loyal home fans who feared the worst as their favourites trailed by eight points after an hour, but they fought back to

gain a memorable and deserved victory.

While it was undoubtedly a team effort special mention could be made of the front row of hooker Lee Griffiths and props Steffan Harries and Ryan

Rees.

All-action openside flanker Sion Colella who ran in for two ties, was given great support by No. 8 Osian Davies and blindside flanker Guto Davies.

In the back division base of the scrum operator Dafydd Phillips provided a first-rate service for his halfback partner Carwyn Jones who

invariably took the right options.

Sustained pressure culminated in Colella going over for a score converted by centre Ifan Phillips.

As the Swansea visitors responded outside half Dan White landed a penalty and soon afterwards they were awarded a penalty try for a

scrummaging offence before scrum-half Ben Ley increased the lead with a well-taken try.

It became nip and tuck for the reminder of an entertaining contest as Colella charged over for his second touchdown, converted by Phillips, who

landed a penalty to put Crymych in front.

A second White penalty had Dunvant in the ascendancy but as the clock ran down a Phillips penalty proved vital and in the final moments he and his colleagues held firm to move up the table.
