Those confidently forecasting a stroll for Costcutter League Division One early leaders St Dogmaels against arch-rivals Cardigan Town in the north Pembrokeshire village tomorrow (Wednesday) could be at risk of being left with egg on their faces.

Last season's league runners-up Saints got off to a flyer with a 4-0 midweek win over Llanboidy at Cae Dandre and four days later brushed aside Ffostrasol 6-1 at School Field.

A 4-2 defeat for Justin Evans and his Cardigan youngsters against Crannog at the Urdd Centre on Wednesday gave rise to a belief that the Magpies would be no match for Llandysul on Saturday and Saints.

Highly-rated Llandysul, who recently appointed Gwynfor Edwards of Llanelli as manager, sprang a 4-2 win at Ffostrasol on the opening day and a quick follow-up in Cardigan appeared to be on the cards.

But eyebrows were raised when news filtered through from King George V Playing Field where Town, who included half a dozen or so 16 and 17-year-olds in their line-up, roared to a 5-1 win over the Swallows.

Whether the youngsters can cause an even bigger upset by getting something at fortress School Field tomorrow remains to be seen.

Llandysul could have no complaints about the scoreline as they were outplayed virtually throughout the 90 minutes by a side oozing class and confidence.

The entertaining contest was slightly marred by the sending off of Cardigan goalkeeper Steff Marsden for a cynical foul outside the penalty area and a visiting player for a handling offence on the goal line.

The Magpies went ahead midway through the opening 45 minutes when Steff Davies crossed for Tom Gardener to slot home but the visitors soon squared matters through Harry Wilson.

After the goal line incident midfielder Ben Davies slotted home the resulting penalty to nudge Town ahead before the interval.

Such was Cardigan's dominance during the second period replacement goalkeeper Alun Williams, who came off the bench, was a spectator for lengthy periods.

The homesters added three further goals after the break through Steff Davies (2) and a hard-pressed Llandysul defender who put through his own goal.

There was also cause for celebration across the Teifi where St Dogmaels gave a clear warning to their rivals that they will be thereabouts again this term after sauntering to a 6-1 win over Ffostrasol.

Saints led 3-1 with ten minutes remaining and finished strongly with a late goal flourish.

It was all over bar the shouting at the break with the Teifi Estuary villagers leading 3-0 with goals from Peter Almond, Louis Harding and Chris Morgan.

Although Wanderers pulled a goal back early in the second period Saints dominated and further goals came via central midfielder Adam Williams, who bagged a brace, and 16-year-old substitute winger Luke Jones.

Newcastle Emlyn followed up a 3-1 midweek win over Bargod Rangers by coming out on top 2-0 over hard-working Aberaeron Reserves at Parc Emlyn.

The goals against Aeron came during the opening 45 minutes through former Bargod favourite Julian Lynch and 16-year-old Mikey John.

Felinfach also have a 100 per cent record after two outings, the Milkmen winning 3-2 against Aberaeron Reserves in midweek three days later edging home 4-3 at Llanboidy.

The visiting marksmen at Cae Dandre were Kevin Boyes who netted twice, Joe Jenkins and Sol Kalani.
