The sand was not too soft, the sun was not too hot, the wind was not too breezy and there was the hint of a beautiful sunset starting to creep over the horizon, ideal conditions for both competitors and spectators.

Nonetheless, the beach is never less than punishing on the legs of the 100 juniors and 79 adults running last Tuesday night’s final Poppit Race of this year.

Rotherham Blizard’s Arron Larkin registered the fastest time of this year’s three races in 17 minutes to win the main race, followed by Cardigan Running Club’s Mark Horseman in a time that could have won the race a fortnight earlier, with Swansea Harrier Raul Reismann in third place.

Sarn Helen 12-year-old Rhys Williams completed a hat-trick of victories in the junior race in eight minutes two seconds, his fastest time of this year, with Ollie George in second place, as he was in the previous race, followed by 12-year-old Dafydd Green in third place.

Any runner, spectator or Tivy-side reader looking for a weekly run is welcome to come along and join Cardigan Running Club’s weekly run from Cardigan Leisure centre, from 6.30pm every Wednesday, beginners welcome.
