A FEAST of femininity and fortitude is coming to Fishguard's Theatre Gwaun this weekend to celebrate International Women's Day.

The theatre will present a unique two-day celebration starting with a film night on Friday, March 8.

This event, supported by Film Hub Wales, will feature five short films of local and/or Welsh interest including Mr Weinstein Will See You Now, a music video by Amanda Palmer and local singer Jasmine Power, inspired by the #MeToo movement.

The short films will be followed at 8pm by the feature film Colette, starring Keira Knightley and Dominic West, about the French novelist who scandalised polite society with her semi-autobiographical fiction.

The whole evening costs £10 per ticket, including a glass of bubbly and snacks.

On the afternoon of Saturday, March 9, from 2.00 to 5.00pm there will be a series of free talks and workshops. Talks focus on a range of women's issues near and far and will feature Chwarae Teg, the Women's Institute and a question and answer with Jasmine Power who will be talking about her recent music video and performing selected songs.

After this there will be three workshops: one exploring the community/ individual benefit of song and dance, one a relaxing women's acoustic session and the other (bookable, at www.holyhiatsu.co.uk) to experiment with collaborative stitching.

No previous experience required for any of the workshops which are free to attend thanks to funding from the Lions and Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council. This funding has also allowed for free childcare at local nursery PlayDays (booking required).

On Saturday evening from 6.30pm to 10pm there will be a night of theatre and live music. This includes poetry by and about women performed by Best Foot Forward. This will be followed by torytelling by Scary Little Girls around the theme of chocolate: Salon du Chocolat is an intimate salon of sensuous words and literary delights that has wowed audiences wherever it's been performed. The evening will finish with a live music session with Jess Ward and Holly Robinson on harp and fiddle bringing the melodic riffs and earthy beats of folk music old and new on feminine themes.

Saturday evening costs per £15 a ticket or you can buy a weekend ticket for both evenings for £20.

"This will be an unmissable and memorable weekend of entertainment by women, for people of all ages and stages," said a theatre spokesman. "There'll be something for everyone to share, learn and laugh together."
