A 48 year-old man died in a collision that closed the A40 near Fishguard yesterday (Sunday), it has been confirmed.

Police confirmed this morning that a 48-year-old man died in the collision between a bus and a pedestrian.

A police statement issued this morning said:

“Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses to a road traffic collision which occurred on the A40 near to Rafael Roundabout, Fishguard on Sunday 17th February 2019 at around 6.55pm."

"The collision involved a bus and a pedestrian, who sadly passed away at scene.

"If anyone has any information on this incident please contact Pembrokeshire Roads Policing Unit on the 101 number quoting reference 286 for the 17th February 2019."

The Welsh ambulance service said it sent two vehicles to the scene.

"We received a call at approximately 6:55pm last night, 17 February, to an incident on the roundabout of the A40 High Street, Fishguard," said an ambulance spokesman.

"We responded with an emergency ambulance and an air ambulance."

The Western Telegraph reported on Sunday evening that the road was closed in both directions from the junction with the A4219 at Scleddau to the roundabout at the top of the Fishguard bypass, the A487 Rafael Roundabout.

The Western Telegraph understands that the accident involved a coach and a pedestrian, although this has not yet been confirmed.

The collision is understood to have happened at around 6.30pm near the junction between the A40 and the road leading to Tregroes Caravan Park.

The road was closed and diversions were in place.

The road has since re-opened ahead of the Monday rush hour.
